IntoxiKA! brings its fresh sounds of neo-exotica dub lounge music straight from Oahu to Kona for two performances later this month.
Performacnes are scheduled at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and 29 at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar in Kailua-Kona featuring multi-Hoku Hanohano Award-winner and bird call master Lopaka Colon Jr., who is following the legacy of his father, the “Sophisticated Savage,” and Augie Colon, who started the original exotica movement with Martin Denny, mallet percussionist, Thomas Mackay, and bass guru Ernie Provencher.
Together, IntoxiKA! weaves seamlessly through dub-infused versions of classics by exotica pioneers Baxter, Denny and Lyman, performing the compositions with sweet atmospheric interpretation. Audiences are taken on a journey back to 1950s era Oahu when tiki ruled the airwaves and tiki bars were the all the rage!
